There has been a misunderstanding in John Ward’s topic presentation “Status of Sugar Pines Along Highway 66”.  Rather than planting Sugar Pines so many years ago, 13 mature Sugar Pines, which can live up to 300 years, were “saved” from wholesale immediate harvest by being purchased, thus “adopted” by contributions from numerous persons throughout Jackson County and Klamath County and elsewhere.  “Adoption” papers were issued to individual purchasers and to two congregations: Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Klamath County and Rogue Valley Unitarian Universalists (under the tutelage of Rev. Patt Herdklotz, the Congregation’s minister at that time).  The campaign to save and adopt these trees was undertaken by Friends of the Greensprings (FOG).  John Ward was and still is the President of the Friends of the Greensprings.  His wife Anita Ward assisted, with publicity, in the project as Coordinator of the Friends of the Greensprings.  Group tours/picnics of the trees were held for several years.  John will bring us up-to-date with what is happening now and possible opportunities.
